Vancouver BC Fashion Week

BC Fashion Week

I was invited to attend Vancouvers’ BC Fashion Week to train some of the models.  On my way everything possible went wrong.  I arrived at the airport to find out I had no ticket, but thanks to my saviors Terry and Carol Air Canadas’ Concierge duo I was taken well care of until my next flight 5 hours later.   I was well greeted by Vancouver and had a great time meeting and working with aspiring models including Tiara (who literally made me cry when she walked out on the runway for the first time in her life!), Grace (who ran out and got me cough drops because I was getting sick) and Sunny ( a wicked runway walker  and jewelry designer who laced me with goodies!).  I had the opportunity to meet  and snatch a piece of their first ever designs young fashion design graduates Lacey Lee, Genette Salgado,Isabella Diamond, Stephanie Jones, Cera Neima and Savannah.

A very special thank you to Chez and her team ,Alex, Meghan, Cassie!

MCAI Event

I was honored to be apart of this theatrical presentation of design, dance and music depicting jazz icons Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway.

The event is a benefit for the Multicultural Arts Initiative, a funding and advocacy organization supporting artists of African descent.  Narrated by Malik Yoba the night was filled with mad fun for a great cause!

Custom designs were created solely for this event, included was a glass sculpted floral headdress created by international renowned glass artist Kathleen Mulchay (my favourite piece to rock) and Diana Misetic who made the most fab 20’s/40’s costumes including my favourite pieces the brown dress and black tux pant suit.

A special tribute was paid to trumpet player Sean Jones as the artist of the year.

Wicked fun!

New York Fashion Week 2010

100_1254

This season I did not get to enjoy the entire fashion week due to a family crisis. But, the few shows I had a chance to see before my departure had me excited. Sorry to say it was not the clothing (I did enjoy that too!), but the fact that I counted 43 BLACK MODELS in 3 shows alone had me on a high!

I pray that this will continue for many more fashion weeks to come!

BIG UP TO ALL MY ASPIRING DESIGNERS

staceyshawnandevan

I am a avid supporter of fashion especially when it comes to aspiring fashionistas. I believe in helping others who do not have the opportunities I or others have to help themselves get to the next level. So with that being said I am giving aspiring designers the opportunity to be recognized by wearing one of their designs to a major event.

Send me pictures/websites to see your designs and if I like anything I WILL ROCK IT for you to an event! Get on it now if you want ME to rock YOU at NYC fashion week!!!

These are some of my FAVE natural products that I cannot live without!  Thanks to my sister who taught me how to take care of myself inside and out the natural way. YOU SHOULD TOO!

BLACK SOAP: Pure natural African Black Soap is as clean as you will ever get in your life! It’s great for evening out your complexion (so you don’t need those bleaching creams etc!).  If you have skin problems such as, pimples and eczema, Black Soap is the real deal cure!

RAW SHEA BUTTER: This is my ultimate can’t live without product!  Shea butter comes in 2 colors, an off white(which I prefer) and a mustard yellow (not the greatest on your clothing, leaves a stain). You can use it from head to toe! Shea butter is great for practically everything, hair(dry hair), face and body.  It’s great for smoothing, tightening and evening out your skin.  Great for eczema, sun burn, stretch marks, small wounds, skin cracks and skin ulcers. I personally don’t like the smell so I prefer to use nightly after a nice shower/bath. Slather it on semi wet skin and your good to go!

RAW MANGO BUTTER: This is another product I cannot live without! Mango butter looks like a white caky butter, that can be used for face and body. It’s great for wrinkles! GREEEEAT!  I prefer to use at night too because it stinks!  I would suggest you wear a sweatsuit or pajamas, you don’t want the caky butter all over your bed sheets!

RUSSELL SIMMONS ART FOR LIFE BENEFIT

art-for-life6

I was honored to attend the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation’s Tenth Annual East Hampton Benefit  ART FOR LIFE. It was a glamourous black and white event celebrating 10th years of providing arts education programming to thousands of students in the disciplines of visual, written and performing arts. Russell knows how to throw a mean event in his infamous Hampton backyard!  He had an amazing tent set up with LIVE art mannequins, security looking like secret service agents were watching each and everyone with a bright eye. The who’s who of the political industry included Governor Paterson, the TV industry, Vanessa Williams, and the music world of course, Andre Aurell.  There was a silent auction in which the auctioneer had a hard time selling the product.  It was Star Jones who  took over and in 10 mins made a whopping $110,000 in less than 10 minutes!  ARIES RULES!! Now, I have to talk about the food, my god the dinner was amazing! If you all don’t know Russell is a vegan, I’m a meat girl, GIVE ME MY BEEF, but, after having that unbelievably tasty “Cornmeal Soufflé” I am reconsidering having some vegetarian in my diet from now on!  The night was full of great company, great food, great music and of course most importantly a giving back with this great event!
